Abstract
The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan was established in
the immediate aftermath of World War II. In the intervening 40
years, the SAE of Japan overcame numerous hurdles and grew to be
one of the most important engineering organizations in the world
with a membership of about 23,000.
The SAE of Japan is also active overseas, promoting interflow
with countries around the world as a member of the IPC and FISITA
and playing a role in international cooperation in automotive
technology.
Japan still faces great difficulties in the form of trade
frictions and the high value of the yen, and is trying its best to
solve these problems.
New themes have emerged in the fields of electronics and new
materials. The engineers must take up the challenge of this new
technology in order to improve the performance of automobiles and
build an affluent society while maintaining harmony between man and
car.
It is hoped that this year's IPC will provide an opportunity
for the participants from many countries to frankly exchange
opinions and thus promote technical interflow
