Abstract
As part of an extensive investigation into the prediction of engine noise and vibration, four different engine structure simulations have been built.
The radiated noise and vibration of these four structures has been measured using a Ricardo Banger Rig to simulate engine combustion excitation.
Detailed analysis of the noise and vibration characteristics has yielded important information on the significance of structural features for engine noise reduction. The data have also been used to assess several noise prediction schemes and to validate a parallel finite element modelling program.
