Abstract
Controls of the shot peening process have evolved from early off-hand peening to todays sophisticated, accruate and dependable micro processor controlled machines. The recent introduction of computer controlled shot peening machines, allows designers of aircraft parts subject to stress corrosion and fatigue to specify shot peening parameters that insure uniformity and repeatability never before achievable. This noteworthy improvement of controls is a welcome addition in todays liability insurance conscious aircraft industry.
