Abstract
Caterpillar has developed a programmable electronic engine control (PEEC) system for 3406B truck engines to improve fuel economy and performance while meeting current and future emission levels (1*). An extensive field test program was undertaken to demonstrate the predicted performance, fuel economy and reliability levels for the electronic control system. This paper discusses the functions, field test results and demonstrated reliability for the 3406B PEEC system.
