Abstract
A data link simulator has been developed using an IBM PC XT or equivalent to monitor and simulate network communications as specified by the SAE RECOMMENDED PRACTICES FOR ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE BETWEEN MICROCOMPUTER SYSTEMS IN HEAVY DUTY VEHICLE APPLICATIONS (J1587 DRAFT). In its most passive mode, the simulator will perform as an on-line monitor and in its most active mode it will originate messages and respond automatically to specific messages.
