Abstract
Hydraulic auxiliary power unit (APU) starters offer several unique advantages over other types of starter designs, including self-sufficiency, versatility and low weight. This paper presents a brief description of hydraulic APU start motors, an overview of two applications and potential trends for the future. Aircraft applications are described in the paper as well as the hydraulic circuit involved in the APU start cycle.
