Abstract
The interaction of fuel injection and air motion is of crucial importance to the combustion performance of the direct injection Diesel engine. This paper describes progress to date in art experimental investigation into this interaction. A variable swirl mechanism applied to a medium-speed 2 stroke engine is described, the flow it produces is characterised and preliminary results with both standard gas oil and a special low-Cetane number fuel are presented.
