Abstract
A new finite element modeling technique has been developed which shows considerable promise for reducing the time required to construct complex, solid finite element models. This technique involves the use of geometric modeling and solid mesh generation.
The quality of these models, which are comprised of parabolic tetrahedron finite elements, is established through a variety of examples. Further, the application of this technique to specific off-highway vehicle components, including a diesel engine piston and crankshaft, and components of a crawler tractor undercarriage (track link and bogie) is investigated.
