Abstract
Off-the-shelf solenoids rarely meet the particular application requirements of earthmoving equipment. Consequently, the engineers involved in identifying and specifying types of solenoids must understand how each works, recognizing the varied parameters that affect performance and cost.
Several requirements have to be taken into account in every solenoid design. These requirements range from the voltage to be applied, to the mechanical interface, to the placement of the solenoid in the vehicle, Early, open communication between the applications engineer and the solenoid design engineer shortens the time required to finalize the solenoid design. The purpose of this paper is to explain the different requirements that need to be considered when designing a solenoid.
