Abstract
The Air Force Engineering and Services Center has had a coordinated research program for hazardous waste disposal for a number of years. One of the projects culminated last year with pilot and full scale testing of a ferrous and sulfide chromium reduction technology developed at the Environics Division Laboratory. The research showed that the new technology could reduce effluent heavy metal concentrations from industrial wastewater treatment to below detection limits. In addition, the treatment process was operationally less demanding, reduced treatment costs over 75-percent, simplified water softening for recycle, and had a payback period for implementation cost recovery of under 2 weeks.
