Abstract
HDG steel has two main advantages :
- it is effective in corrosion protection as proved on vehicules for more than 20 years;
- it is the most economical to produce in heavy coating weights required everywhere a good protection is needed.
Improved control of the galvanizing process, development of adhesives and surface treaments more compatible with the zinc coating were needed for their use on exposed car body panels.
This paper describes the recent progress made on those various points so that now HDG steel can fully meet the specific requirements of carmakers.
