Abstract
The main factor which influences the toughness of a low carbon boron steel 20MnVB is presented, and is connected with the phenomenon of the so called “boron embrittlement”. Based on this, it is suggested that some measures to reduce embrittling tendency of the steel work piece could be made for higher gear quality.
