Abstract
The objective of this paper is to provide a basic understanding of design challenges of trackless vehicles for underground mining applications. In 20 years of existence, Load-Haul-Dumps (LHDs) have come a very long way. Since the basic unit was introduced in mines, Eimco Mining Machinery International and the mining industries have seen some dramatic innovative changes. Among the most important of which are various power options - diesel or electric (AC) motors using trailing cable power supply, readily adaptable to the basic main frame with minimum alterations. A radio remote controlled system can also be adapted to each model. This all is incorporated into Eimco's 920 Series LHDs.
