Abstract
A new comparative dimensionless parameter has been developed which demonstrates in a dramatic fashion the advantage of being restrained by a seat belt in the event of a vehicular crash. The use of the new parameter is illustrated by examining some of the data collected by Transport Canada in a three year study of accidents involving light trucks and vans.
