Calculation of Mechanical Transmission Ratios Considering Vehicle Deceleration During the Gear Shift
Sector:
Language:

Abstract
Power interruption during a mechanical transmission gear-shift
causes vehicle deceleration. This effect limits the ratio-step
choice.
Pictures show the calculations' results (bus, 38-ton train).
Using them, we can find a rule, when to skip gears during
acceleration, and objectively judge the usefulness of close steps
between low gears. (The designs of two world's greatest
transmission makers differ in this point.)
This method can help to improve the optimal shift-indicators
and, let us hope, facilitate the development of mechanical
transmission shift automation
