Abstract
The requirements a modern carburetor concept has to comply with and the approaches to solve the problems involved will be described below by the example of the Pierburg 2E-carburetor.
The development goal of the Pierburg 2E-carburetor was to provide the engineers of the development operations of the car manufacturers with a modular system for mixture formation which complies with the requirements of the present and the development priorities of future vehicle and engine concepts with a favorable cost/benefit ratio.
The application of the modular technology will be particularly referred to by means of an example of carburetor versions, means for controlling the idle air and fuel flow and starter modules. Further focal points are reductions of the idle fuel consumption, the deceleration cut-off and the engine simulating settings and tests.
