Abstract
Tractor operators have reported experiencing a different tractor handling “feel” when radial R-1 tires are placed in the drive positions.
Subjective evaluations comparing bias and radial tires in all positions on a mechanical front wheel drive tractor found only minor differences in handling and ride performance. It was found that MFWD tractors also have a different “feel” when equipped with radial tires. Operators must be educated in the same way as car drivers were when they switched to radial tires.
Significant improvement in field work was found when radial tires are run in all drive positions.
