Abstract
What means “Risk of Injury”, “Crash Severity”, “Car Front Softness”? A careful analysis of different samples of actual traffic accidents leads to new findings regarding the effects of the speed change and the acceleration of the vehicle and the passenger compartment intrusion on the risk of injury to the passengers. Surprisingly, a higher test impact speed not only does not reduce the risk of injuries in real accidents, but possibly may even increase that risk.
