Abstract
Recent changes that make diesel emission control regulations more stringent have necessitated the design and implementation of new, more sophisticated engine control strategies. The implementation of these controls will begin with closed-loop electronic exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve control for the 1984 California diesel passenger vehicles and will continue into 1985 with the addition of injection pump timing controls for barometric altitude compensation. The design of these controls, and the benefits they provide, are described in detail in this paper.
