Panel Member Statements on Esv/Rsv Development
Published January 01, 1982 by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in United States
The purpose of the initial safety vehicle program was to test, on an experimental basis, new ideas of automotive safety incorporated in a vehicle which has been designed, fabricated and tested as a total system. The basic objectives of the program were to determine the technical feasibility of making significant safety performance improvements in motor vehicles, to stimulate public awareness of the long-term social and economic advantages to be gained from the savings of lives and injuries resulting from advanced auto safety design, to encourage the industry to increase their efforts in auto safety design and to establish the technical base for the development of improved motor vehicle safety standards.
Representatives of seven countries share their opinions on these objectives and the implementation of experimental safety vehicle research.
