A Review of Recent Progress in Diesel Engine Noise Reduction

Abstract
The challenge presented and the progress made in engine noise reduction are reviewed. The excitation sources are examined together with approaches to their reduction. The importance of the engine structure is recognised and mathematically based modelling techniques are described. Recommendations are given for general engine noise reduction techniques.
