The Simulation of Tire Traction on Wet Pavements

Vehicle designers today employ complex simulations not only for predicting the performance of a vehicle, but also for determining the stresses and deformations various components undergo in service. Obviously for these purposes maximum or limiting conditions are of major importance. This makes the limit performance of the vehicle the conditions at which all pertinent parameters must be known with great precision.
In many situations limit performance is given by the maximum forces that the tires can transmit. It is the object of the designer to endow his vehicle with the best performance and maneuverability that tire characteristics will permit. For this purpose he will employ the friction values that tires can develop on dry pavements.
