Abstract
Strapdown Inertial Reference Systems have been selected for the new Boeing 757 and 767 and Aerospatiale A310 aircraft. The benefits provided by the strapdown system, as opposed to the gimballed system, and the differences between the two mechanizations are discussed. The material presented is for potential airline users of such equipment rather than the system designers.
