Abstract
A new Hysteretic Materials Test System (HYMATS) has been developed to study energy loss in tire materials. The test facility is designed to subject a tire material specimen to a series of loading profiles. The signals for the displacement and the force experienced by the test specimen are monitored and recorded for further analysis. The hysteretic energy loss can be calculated from the force and displacement data.
The test apparatus is capable of conducting the tests under tensile or compressive load. The test facility, its associated electronic control system, its performance characteristics, and its safety features are described in this paper.
