Abstract
The author reflects on his 30 years experience in diesel combustion and related research. Philosophical approaches to problem solving are illustrated by some of the earlier work in which the author was personally involved.
The problems facing the diesel today, particularly from a combustion point of view, are reviewed and areas for research effort are highlighted.
