Abstract
This paper is written to provide the student or beginner in the truck electrical field with a basic background and understanding of components and systems being used today. Starting with batteries, details of the newer maintenance free units are reviewed before moving on to operational and application criteria for charging, cranking, ignition, instrument, lighting, and electronic components as they are incorporated in production vehicles. The paper discusses trends that show the direction in which the industry can be expected to move over the next several years.
