Abstract
This paper discusses the status of exhaust system development for earthmoving equipment. A brief review is made of single-plug and manifold mufflers followed by a discussion of quieter exhaust mufflers with aspirating sections. Possible future trends are suggested including the use of more effective spark arresting, noise silencing, and power tuning sections in increasingly complex muffler designs.
