Abstract
A tutorial introduction to current status and historical background of very low-frequency (VLF) radio navigation systems is presented. Included are VLF radio propagation characteristics and a discussion of alternate system philosophies. Features and performance of currently available systems are compared to illustrate the state-of-the-art.
