Abstract
Bench-fatigue testing can be a superior tool for assuring that an engine component is an adequate structure, although it does not replace endurance operation of engines in laboratory and field. Bench-fatigue tests can be more effective; that is, easier, quicker, cheaper, more definitive, than stress analysis or nonfailure testing.
The results of such tests and field experience can provide a valuable history.
The capability of bench tests to make meaningful, accurate forecasts increases with sophistication and use.
