Abstract
The single-shaft gas turbine is a satisfactory vehicular powerplant when an infinitely variable transmission is available and a suitable control system is provided. Vehicle operating requirements and single-shaft turbine characteristics must be considered to develop the control concept. An integrated electronic turbine-transmission control system provides the needed flexibility for varying application of this power system. Satisfactory operation of such a system in two modes is demonstrated by results of field evaluation of a test vehicle.
