Abstract
The study provides an appraisal of some of the problems that have developed as the result of the effect of aircraft overflight on neighboring communities, and from the resultant noise emissions. Specific emphasis is placed on the short-term problem and the reaction of individuals or community leaders to the noise experience occasioned by daily operations. Emphasis is also made with respect to the hours of duration of such noise experience and the times of the day. Officials concerned with airport operations and runway usage will have to cope with the problem of community reaction until such time when technical results reduce public reaction. Interim alleviation of the problem is discussed with respect to reduced long time runway usage.
