Abstract
After summarizing the general automobile lighting principles, as well as the respective US and European designs, the author quotes the reasons why a self levelling device is desirable and in some instances even required.
General self levelling design principles are established and several practical solutions reviewed. More complete details are given on a hydraulic leveller and on how thermic variations are compensated.
