Abstract
To determine the relative importance of various mechanisms or “theories” in establishing the preformance of adhesive bonds, an examination is made of bonds between two homogeneous chemically uniform materials; bonds between complex multicomponent phases; interfacial diffusion; electrostatic forces in adhesion; and the influence of specific interfacial bonds.
