Abstract
The problem of writing valid availability models for complex systems is discussed, together with the problem of maximizing availability as a function of maintenance and support factors. A new graph-theoretic modeling and simulation technique is described, useful for predicting the distribution of system downtime and for enabling trade-offs among design and support variables.
