Abstract
Propulsion systems diagnostics, neglected through the early years of turbine propulsion development, is now emerging as a new weapon with which airlines can protect themselves against advanced in-service failures and their attendant safety and economic impacts.
Air Canada's experience in the development and application of various diagnostic methods is reviewed and reveals a still pressing need for: improved aircraft and powerplant basic diagnostic design and accessibility; a better and wider field of engineered detection devices, both airborne and ground support; personnel training and specialization.
