Abstract
A brief review of a comprehensive mathematical model of the vehicle is presented. The capabilities of this model have been made easily accessible to the design and development engineer by implementation on the remote console computer time- sharing system.
A joint test-calculation investigation into the development of useful handling criteria and design analysis of vehicle handling behavior is briefly discussed. As a result of this investigation, a number of criteria were developed by which vehicle performance can be evaluated.
Application of the mathematical model and these criteria to improve handling characteristics of a “problem vehicle” are demonstrated “on-line” using a remote console connected to Ford Technical Computer Center facilities in Dearborn.
