Abstract
The ever expanding growth of the eastern seaboard megalopolis presents major problems in the planning of airports to serve the area efficiently. This paper reviews past experience and future needs of the Washington-Philadelphia-New York-Boston area. Discussed in detail is the planning for the airports, with connecting arterial highway and rail transportation. The author concludes that the metropolitan region must be totally planned to preserve the balance of residential, business and industrial development with sufficient open spaces, and that airports must be a major part of such planning.
