Abstract
Has the turbine engine progressed from an engineering curiosity to a sophisticated powerplant capable of producing a profit for both the vehicle manufacturer and the vehicle user? Paper discusses the answers to this question as related to off-highway industrial vehicles of 600 hp or less in terms of such factors as thermodynamics, aerodynamic efficiency, and specific power.
