Abstract
In deciding what oil drain practices should be for a given aircraft/engine combination, the basic design of the engine is the most important factor. The method of installation of the engine in the aircraft also helps establish lubricant limitations as does the severity of operation of the aircraft. After the mechanical conditions and its surrounding atmosphere are set, the lubricant quality is the limiting factor in establishing lubricant life or oil drain practices.
