Abstract
Increases in operating temperatures and the rapid advancement of time intervals between overhauls has placed greater demands on the temperature-time capabilities of Type 1 synthetic lubricants used for airline operated gas turbine engines. The development of Type 2 lubricants with better high temperature capabilities coupled with an improved oil monitoring technique made possible rapid advances in oil use time and provided the airline operator with a potentially useful maintenance tool.
