Abstract
Significant advances have been made as a direct consequence of research and development in casting alloys, founding processes, and utilization taken place during the past ten years. Government agencies and industry have contributed to these advances by sponsorship and contract performance. The Government has put forth a broad effort to pace cast materials in step with vehicle and power plant technologies. This impetus should spur an accelerated program of further research and development. A few recent achievements are noted which emphasize the importance of this program.
