Abstract
United Air Lines has operated the Sud Aviation Caravelle in the Eastern United States for almost three years. The same airline introduced Boeing 727 service in February 1964. This unique combination of medium range jet operating experience is reviewed with emphasis on mechanical dependability. Performance, economics, and passenger reaction are also covered. The Caravelle is a very popular and reliable aircraft. The newer 727 offers improved performance, greater versatility, better economics, and potentially equal dependability.
