Abstract
Although “GSE in the Vehicle” is required for space missions, so little is known about space operations that better definition can be made of the hardware by considering ground operations. Data from an operational program is used in this paper to prove that (1) the electrical umbilicals can be eliminated, and (2) all of the specified detailed tests on a particular subsystem can be performed without wires.
These exercises identify the need for four major airborne hardware assemblies. These are the rf link, command and control unit, stimuli section, and electrical processing computer. The performance required of these hardware assemblies is primarily digital, having been obtained by a step-by-step analysis of the 283-test sequence.
