Abstract
A pipe dream which envisioned a steel pipe mill simultaneously producing and laying high pressure welded line pipe as it traveled along the right-of-way became a reality through the design of a new metal forming process and an advancement in electronics.
In a distance of only 16 ft from the first forming pass to the weld closure point, flat steel strip, in coils, is formed into welded pipe. The diameter range is 6-5/8 to 10-3/4 in. OD.
A recent electronic advancement produced a 450,000 cycle radio frequency induction welder which requires minimum basic and auxiliary equipment.
