Abstract
Iron castings for large internal combustion engines and compressors must be designed to tolerate dynamic loads for infinite life. Actual designs are evaluated by simulated fatigue testing, by dynamic stress measurement in an operating unit, and by performance testing in the prototype unit. Examples of each are discussed.
