Abstract
Bendix Corp. s experience in adapting Caliper Disc brakes to American cars is presented. One problem encountered in utilizing disc brakes was the greater weight of American cars as compared to European cars. This meant the Caliper Disc brake required 4-5 times greater wheel cylinder area and twice the hydraulic line pressure in order to be adaptable to the heavier cars.
The Caliper Disc brake, its application, and its operation are discussed in detail. It is Bendix's opinion that disc brakes have proved superior to drum brakes in several respects, and that design advances in both the disc and drum brakes will be the net result.
