Abstract
The Bureau of Ships hydrofoil materials research program is described. The program includes the desired material specifications, survey of the literature on structural materials, screening tests of the more promising materials, and intensive testing of the final selected materials. A comprehensive series of tests was conducted to obtain mechanical properties, static corrosion, stress corrosion, corrosion fatigue, erosion, and cavitation data. All tests are explained, and a representative sampling of the more important data given. The work also includes fabricability and cost data for various materials.
