Abstract
There are two basic types of ignition methods in reciprocating gas engines - compression ignition of small quantities of diesel oil in gas-diesel engines used to ignite a main charge of gaseous fuel, and spark ignition of gaseous fuel in straight gas engines.
Experience has shown that gas-diesels are generally better performers. Recent tests indicate that transistorization of ignition systems cannot change this relationship because of limitations imposed by spark plugs. Transistorized ignitions should operate with virtually no maintenance except as required by spark plugs, spark plug wires. and spark plug resistors.
