Abstract
The John Deere 3010 and 4010 tractor engines were designed as a family of 4 and 6 cyl engines for gasoline, LP gas, and diesel fuels, and are intended to develop the same power on any fuel and adapt to the same chassis with identical mountings. Other major requirements were a maximum interchangeability of parts and machining with minimum manufacturing equipment. Different stroke-bore ratios were selected for the spark ignition and diesel engines, to obtain satisfactory performance.
The determination of stroke-bore ratios will be discussed and it will be shown how these were incorporated in the manufacturing process.
