Abstract
A shock isolator is conventionally idealized as a spring and a dashpot in parallel. An improved model for elastomers results from using dashpots, each in series with a spring, in place of the separate dashpot. Quantitative characteristics of the improved model are deduced. A model is derived for a particular rubber sample and its behavior is compared with that of the rubber. Finally, shock response of the new model is compared with that of the conventional model.
